Trieste-based roaster Illycaffè in mid-October announced that it was opening two new Università del caffè coffee training operations in Asia, in Jakarta and Bangkok.

The Indonesian and Thai branches of Università del caffè will join four other branches in Asia, in India, China, South Korea and Malaysia, the company said, and it was motivated by the economic resilience of the region and the local interest in coffee.

Founded in 2000 in Trieste, there are now Università del caffè branches also in Brazil, Egypt and several European countries.

The new branches will offer one course covering the story of coffee from coffee beans to espresso, and another more practical course that will highlight the art of making coffee and using recipes to make individual coffee bars more distinctive.
