CHINA 27th August 2010
Swiss multinational Nestlé's Nespresso single-cup coffee arm in mid-August opened its 200th boutique worldwide in Shanghai, its third in China.
The company said that it was continuing its expansion into new markets, and that its more established markets, including Switzerland and France, were still showing strong growth.
Nespresso, which sources most of its sales online, attributes 30% of its turnover to its network of boutiques. It opened its first outlet in Paris in 2000, and this year opened boutiques in Miami, Cape Town and Brussels, with plans to expand the woldwide network to 220 before the end of 2010.
Nespresso is on track to surpass SFr 3bn (€2.29bn) turnover this year, CEO Richard Girardot was quoted as saying.
