BRAZIL 27th February 2011
A 40-box lot of certified organic coffee from the Grota São Pedro farm achieved $25.05 per pound in the Brazil Cup of Excellence auction held in January, after the coffee won first prize from the international judges in the competition.
The successful bidders for the winning coffee in the 2010 programme were Saza Coffee, Ponpon Coffee, Tabei Coffee and Maruyama Coffee of Japan, along with Brazil's own Lucca Cafés Especiais.
Second prize, and the second best coffee in the competition, was another organic, from Fazenda Serra do Boné, which netted $12.10 a pound from a group made up of Kyouto Fadie Corp, Tashiro Coffee, Time's Club for C-Coop and Coffee Libre.
The third highest price in the auction was tied--at $11.20 per pound--between the third and the eighth placed coffees. Taiwan's Orsir Coffee won the third placed coffee, from the Serra das Três Barras farm, while a group made up of Terarosa, Rawbean Coffee Academy, Pohang Arabica, Old Tree, Beanybeans and Belif were the successful bidders for the eighth placed coffee, from Fazenda Santa Bárbara.
