The SCAE announces a new comprehensive training system, the Coffee Diploma
INTERNATIONAL 31st January 2011
The SCAE is to launch a new comprehensive and integrated training system believed to be the most advanced in Europe.
The Coffee Diploma System will cover a range of subjects with certification at two different levels, Introductory and Advanced, covering basic coffee knowledge, green coffee, roasting, grinding and brewing, sensory cup tasting, espresso, filter and barista skills. Each certificate will also carry points that will contribute to the award of the Coffee Diploma.
Paul Stack of Marco Beverage in Dublin, who is Vice Chair of the SCAE Education Committee, says “While the SCAE's 110 Authorised Trainers have been imparting education on all of these topics over recent years, it has been delivered in a fairly loose manner. To date, only the SCAE's Barista Certification and Gold Cup Brewmaster training have had any system of controlled certification. The SCAE Coffee Diploma System will introduce a certification standard to all of the courses, with each one having an Introductory or Basic level and an Advanced level, for which a controlled certification criteria will exist.”
The Coffee Diploma System will be launched officially at the SCAE’s World of Coffee event in Maastricht, the Netherlands, June 22 – 24, where the first classes will take place.
Paul Stack explains the details of the SCAE’s new Coffee Diploma in a Word document, attached here.
