First Ibrik/Cezve competition prize goes to Russia

29th June 2008
The entertaining and enjoyable Ibrik/Cezve Competition, aimed at finding the best coffee people for preparing and serving of coffee using the brewing method favoured in the Mediterranean region, had a surprise winner in Russia’s Gleb Neveykin.
In second place in the competition was the Greek contestant Kostas Pavlou, and Turkey’s Aybike Taskin came third.
The light-hearted competition—in its first edition in 2008—was an audience favourite at the SCAE’s Wonderful Coffee event, held in Copenhagen in late June.
The contest required competitors from eight nations to prepare and serve coffee in the ibrik/cezve style which is the favourite in much of southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean area, complete with accoutrements including Mediterranean regional costumes and music.
