Gold Cup offers golden opportunities in Copenhagen

5th June 2008

The Gold Cup—Europe’s standard for excellence in grinding and brewing filter coffee—will offer a number of “golden opportunites” at the upcoming Wonderful Coffee Copenhagen 2008 event, according to presenter Paul Stack of Marco Beverage Systems.

First, there’s the SCAE Gold Cup Brewmaster’s course, which marries the art and the science of coffee brewing, linking the subjectivity of taste to the objectivity of scientific analysis.

Wonderful Coffee Copenhagen will host two 2-day sessions that will result in the trainee being certified a Level One Brewmaster; the first is on June 19th & 20th and the second is on the 21st & 22nd. International experts in all things coffee have been amassed to deliver this best-in-class training programme.

To become a Brewmaster, you must sit the 2-day training course. The Brewmaster’s course covers coffee from the seed, through roasting, grinding, brewing and tasting and includes hands-on workshops and professional coffee cupping.

Most significantly the course will train you to scientifically assess extraction rates of any brew, enabling the Brewmaster to objectively assess a filter brew against the Gold Cup standard. The Gold Cup is the roaster’s and retailer’s greatest selling tool for quality coffee.

Also in Copenhagen, Paul Stack, together with Mike Khan of Bunn-O-Matic Corp will give a public lecture outlining why the Gold Cup represents the next big thing in Coffee Education and Coffee Excellence. Entitled “The SCAE Gold Cup – Why should you get involved?”, the session is scheduled for June 22 at 10:30am.

Covering the quality, operational and financial aspects of Gold Cup coffee, this free lecture is a must for any roaster or retailer wishing to sell more coffee, make more money and increase their customer’s satisfaction.

In addition, for all the attending National Coordinators, Marco’s Drewry Pearson will be explaining the potential financial benefits for SCAE Chapters in running Gold Cup Brewmaster courses.

The talk will encompass an overview of how the Gold Cup works as a Win-Win-Win-Win scenario—count them—4 wins!: it wins for the SCAE Chapter through a great educational tool which delivers revenue; for the Roaster who will sell more coffee while increasing brand equity; for the Retailer who will sell more coffee, make more profit, have happier customers and add value to their brand; and, last but not least, for the Consumer who gets better coffee, meeting the goal of the SCAE.

But you don’t have to be a National Coordinator to get a great deal of benefit from the Gold Cup programme. You can also get full details at a special Gold Cup stand in the Wonderful Coffee Exhibition itself: come to stand 13 to get full details.

You can also click here to see the new Gold Cup brochure online; or here to see the list of Gold Cup Certified Brewasters, which is becoming longer all the time!
