Strong attendance as successful Swiss championships choose four winners

SWITZERLAND 3rd February 2010

Over 300 people attended the successful Swiss Barista Championships at Berne's Westside events centre in late January, and four new champions were chosen to represent Switzerland in London in June, Swiss National Coordinator Heinz Trachsel reports.

Matthias Bühler, from the Shisha Bar in Thun, was the eventual winner, by a narrow margin, of the Barista Championship. He alt achieved 486 points, and also took the prizes for best cappuccino and best signature drink for his "Café Tiramisu." A close second was runner-up Beat Wiss, who was also awarded the prize for best espresso. Third place went to Anna Käppeli.

In the Coffee in Good Spirits Championship, Sandra Stucki from Burgdorf triumphed, with André Kissling second and Sylvain Ernst placing third.

Martin Egger from Burgdorf is the new Latte Art Champion as a result of his performance in the contest, with Matthias Bühler coming second and Beat Wiss third. (Pictured l-r are Latte Art winners Beat Wiss, Martin Egger and Matthias Bühler)

Achieving eight correct answers out of eight in 4.06 minutes was the performance that gave René Fleischer the winning score in the final of the Swiss Cup Tasting Championship. Stefan Flückiger came second in the contest, and Florence Letroux third.
